Ankylosing Spondylitis

Ankylosing spondylitis is a form of arthritis that primarily affects the ligaments and joints of the spine leading to pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion of the lower back. As the disease progresses it can lead to fusion of the joints of the lower back, resulting in a stooped posture. Ankylosing spondylitis can also affect the hips and shoulders as well as causing inflammatory conditions to other organs of the body such as the eyes, heart, and lungs.
